    An interactive experience designed to equip students with the resources necessary to lead contemporary worship music in the local church, addressing worship planning, worship leadership, and technical support for worship sets. This class may be taken more than once for credit. 1 semester hr(s).

  • CERT 1111 - English Grammar


    An introduction to English Grammar, covering the sound system (phonology) of the language, the basic morphology of the parts of speech and the syntax of Standard American English, in the practical context of ESL instruction. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1112 - TESL Teaching Methods I


    An introduction to the process and methods of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). The class will explore a variety of methods and approaches for teaching ESL and examine the connections between research in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and classroom practice. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1113 - TESL Teaching Methods II


    A continuation of TESL Teaching Methods I, introducing students to the process and methods of teaching English as a Second Language. The major emphasis of the course will be giving students practical tools they can use in helping ESL learners gain proficiency in English. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1114 - Introduction to Linguistics


    An introduction to the research, methods, and strategies associated with the acquisition of a second language. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1115 - Second Language Acquisition


    An introduction to the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). The process of second language acquisition will be compared and contrasted with first language acquisition. The role of individual differences in language learning (age, motivation, aptitude, and first language background) will be analyzed. In addition, students will consider the implications of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory for ESL teaching. 1 semester hr(s).

    A survey of principles and practices involved in teaching English as a Second Language in a variety of global contexts. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1120 - Contextualized Teaching


    A study of the principles and methods of preparation, delivery, and evaluation for effective Bible teaching for the purpose of Christian growth and discipleship. The teaching skills of the leader are developed through a teaching practicum. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1121 - Foundations in Youth Ministry


    This course provides the foundational concepts and best practices to prepare the student for ministry to the young in both a church and non-church setting in any context. The course will provide a basic understanding of adolescent development, contemporary culture, and historical and contextual models of youth ministry practice. The course is designed to help the student to respond theologically to the needs and expectations of teenagers and their families in a church or organization. This course will also provide practical tools to enable the students to design a theologically sound youth ministry program. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1122 - Student Ministry Leadership


    An introduction to basic leadership principles and methods and an in-depth examination of trait, behavioral and contingency theories of leadership. Leadership theories are evaluated biblically and theologically. Unique aspects of biblical leadership related to the church and denomination will be explored. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1123 - Youth Ministry Communication


    This course is designed to help students understand and analyze the development of youth disciples within the context of communication theory and praxis. This course provides an understanding of communication in three primary youth ministry contexts: small group discipleship, instructional teaching, and biblical preaching to an adolescent audience. Long-term life transformation within the youth context occurs as young people are exposed to a clear and relevant presentation of scriptural truth. Current and prospective youth ministers must therefore learn how to link the dynamic truth of Scripture with a largely biblically and spiritually illiterate youth audience. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1124 - Youth Outreach and Evangelism


    This course explores the biblical mandate to follow the call to “go to all nations,” especially as it relates to adolescents. Students will learn how to articulate and pass on to others the biblical and theological view of evangelism and outreach. Through readings, lecture, projects, and discussion, students will learn how to design a relational ministry program to reach unchurched adolescents in their community. This course will enable the student to develop a biblically sound as well as culturally relevant theology of youth and young adult outreach and evangelism. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1125 - Introduction to Family Ministry


    This course presents an analysis of the current understanding and “modes” of “family ministry” over against a theological, sociological, and developmental understanding of contemporary culture. Various models of family ministry will be examined, and through the use of case studies, lectures, and research, students will learn how to create a family ministry that best suits the needs and vision of a given church or ministry organization. This course will enable the student to understand and practically respond to the needs of singles, couples, and families while building the local church in a “family of families.” 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1200 - Old Testament for Global Ministry Leaders


    An overview of the Old Testament story. Special attention is given to the need for continually reading God’s word and understanding God’s call. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1201 - New Testament for Global Ministry Leaders


    An overview of the New Testament’s Mission. Special attention is given to our need for prayer and the character of our lives. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1202 - Christian Doctrine for Global Ministry Leaders


    An overview of Christian Doctrines with a missional perspective. Special attention is given to our need for worship and shepherding other believers. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1203 - Church History for Global Ministry Leaders


    An overview of how the church has carried out its mission throughout all time. Special attention is given to church ordinances and the need for meditation on Scripture. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1204 - Hermeneutics for Global Ministry Leaders


    An introduction to methods for accurately interpreting God’s word and the process of teaching it to others. Special attention is given to developing other leaders through discipleship and serving other Christians well. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1205 - Missions, Evangelism, and Church Planting for Global Ministry Leaders


    An introduction to Evangelism, Missions, and Church planting that focuses on the role of personal evangelism in the life of all believers. Special attention is given to teaching others to be evangelist and church planters with special attention given to the role of mentoring other believers. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1206 - Homiletics and Storying for Global Ministry Leaders


    An introduction to communication and storying with special emphasis on non-literate communication. This class gives special attention to community engagement and stewardship in the life of believers. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1207 - Family Ministry and Counseling for Global Ministry Leaders


    An introduction to family ministry and the counseling ministry of believers. Special emphasis is given to the disciplines of fasting and church finances. 1 semester hr(s).
  
  • CERT 1208 - Worship Leadership for Global Ministry Leaders


    An introduction to worship leadership in the church. Special attention is given to worship leadership in the role of discipleship as well as the necessity for silence and solitude as believers. 1 semester hr(s).
