Principles of Christian counseling are applied to cross-cultural settings, with diverse ethnic and people groups. Students will develop their awareness of their own cultural and ethnic context and increase their sensitivity to the impact of diverse worldviews, cultural factors, and religious beliefs on counseling. Students will also develop their awareness of and capacity to advocate for social justice, including heightened awareness and elimination of prejudice and bias, while at the same time not compromising their Christian perspective.

This course is designed to help students understand and analyze the development of youth disciples within the context of communication theory and praxis. This course provides an understanding of communication in three primary youth ministry contexts: small group discipleship, instructional teaching, and biblical preaching to an adolescent audience. Long-term life transformation within the youth context occurs as young people are exposed to a clear and relevant presentation of scriptural truth. Current and prospective youth ministers must therefore learn how to link the dynamic truth of Scripture with a largely biblically and spiritually illiterate youth audience.

This course explores the biblical mandate to follow the call to “go to all nations,” especially as it relates to adolescents. Students will learn how to articulate and pass on to others the biblical and theological view of evangelism and outreach. Through readings, lecture, projects, and discussion, students will learn how to design a relational ministry program to reach unchurched adolescents in their community. This course will enable the student to develop a biblically sound as well as culturally relevant theology of youth and young adult outreach and evangelism.
