Social Studies

The major in Social Studies is designed to help the student understand world history and the various social factors that have shaped it. It is a non-licensure program that is ideal for students that desire to do additional work at the graduate level for a teaching license. Moreover, the graduate will be equipped for a wide range of ministries and vocations, and be well prepared for graduate work in seminary, graduate school, or law school.

In addition to the Core Curriculum and Christian Studies Minor* , Social Studies majors must complete the following:

*Note: Students seeking a teaching license or a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) are encouraged to take a Developmental Psychology course and a Macroeconomics course as part of their elective hours. These courses can be completed at an accredited institution and transferred to the College at Southeastern.

Social Studies -30 Hours

HIS 3510 - American History I Pre 1877 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 3520 - American History II Post 1877 3 semester hr(s).
POL 3500 - American Government 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 3650 - American Constitutional Development 3 semester hr(s).
ECO 2500 - Introduction to Economics 3 semester hr(s).
SOC 2600 - Introduction to Sociology 3 semester hr(s).
GEO 2500 - World Geography 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 3531 - The Reformation 3 semester hr(s).
OR
HIS 3532 - American Religious History 3 semester hr(s).
Choose ONE of the following European history courses:
HIS 3620 - Greco Roman and Early Medieval History 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 4640 - Twentieth-Century Europe 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 4660 - History of Russia 3 semester hr(s).
*Students may also choose to take HIS 3531 - The Reformation if they took HIS 3532 as the option above.
Choose ONE of the following non-Western history courses:
HIS 3630 - African History Since 1700 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 3640 - Far Eastern History 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 4620 - Ancient Near Eastern History 3 semester hr(s).
HIS 4650 - Latin American History 3 semester hr(s).
