Missions Minor

The minor in missions introduces students to knowledge, principles, and practices central to missions in national and international contexts. In addition to courses related to missions, church planting, and anthropology, students are required to take a SEBTS sponsored three-credit-hour international mission trip. The seminary offers at least two three-credit-hour trips each year, usually over the winter and summer breaks. Those who minor in missions will be equipped to communicate the gospel in various contexts and will be prepared for further studies in seminary or graduate school.

Minor Requirements

Students must take the following courses to complete the minor in Missions:

MIS 4510 - Christian Missions: Principles & Practice 3 semester hr(s).
MIS 4590 - International Church Planting 3 semester hr(s).
MIS 4980 - Current Topics in International Missions: [Topic Listed] 3 semester hr(s). *
MIS 3990 - Practicum in International Missions: [Location of trip] 3 semester hr(s). *
Choose any 3000 level or above elective in apologetics (PHI), evangelism (EVA) or missions (MIS) 3 semester hr(s).

Choose one of the following three classes:

MIS 4520 - Anthropology for Cross-cultural Understanding 3 semester hr(s).
OR
MIS 3510 - Cross-Cultural Communication. 3 semester hr(s).
OR
MIS 3610 - Mission Area Studies 3 semester hr(s).

Note:

* MIS 4980 and MIS 3990 occasionally are combined and offered as a package, for 6 credit hours, in certain SEBTS sponsored mission trips. These 6 credit hour trips usually are offered in Summer and Winter terms.
