*Master of Divinity, MDiv (Basic Description and Core Curriculum)

The Master of Divinity is a Seminary program designed to prepare pastors, missionaries, and other Christian workers for a life of effective kingdom service. Within three academic years of full-time study, the M.Div. program prepares Christian ministers by enabling them to gain a basic understanding of Scripture, Christian history, theology, and ministry skills within the Christian worldview.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to the Master of Divinity program is limited to persons holding a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent who also meet all other admission requirements. Individual track concentrations may have additional requirements as noted. While a B.A. in Religion or Christian Studies may allow students to qualify for advanced standing, it is not a requirement for enrolling in the Master of Divinity program of the Seminary.

Degree Requirements

The Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree requires 82 or more semester hours, including 70 hours of core studies, except for the Advanced Master of Divinity, MDiv⁺  and Pastoral Ministry Track, MDiv (w/ 5-Year BA/MDiv Option)   Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better in order to receive their degrees. Not more than 15 additional semester hours may be taken to make up a deficiency in quality points.

Curriculum Design

See the suggested sequence of courses for MDiv Foundational Core Studies (below). Summer school and other short-term classes are offered to help students finish their degree plan within a minimum of three academic years. Students who find languages difficult should consider reducing their academic load during the semesters in which they are studying languages.

Suggested Sequence of Courses for M.Div. Foundational Core Studies

The faculty advises students to take introductory level courses early in order to prepare for upper-level electives. Students are also advised to focus on track requirements for their chosen track toward the latter half of their degree programs. This suggested sequence is provided as a guidance tool for academic advisement. It directly applies to the MDiv Christian Ministry track, but can be modified for tracks that require a unique course(s) or more than 82 hours. Students are permitted to take courses out of sequence if necessary. Short-term classes (such as those in Winter and Summer sessions) may be taken and are encouraged so that students may reduce their academic load during regular semesters.
