Pastoral Ministry Major
The major in Pastoral Ministry introduces students to the knowledge and skills central to the work of pastors through classes in pastoral ministry, discipleship, counseling, and Bible exposition. The major also provides students opportunity for additional classes in biblical and theological studies beyond those of the Core Curriculum. The program is designed to begin the formation of the student’s life for pastoral ministry, and prepares students for continuing studies in the Master of Divinity, the standard degree for the equipping of pastors.
Hunt Scholars, 5-year BA/MDiv Program
Students preparing for the pastorate at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) now have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Divinity in five years through the Hunt Scholars Program.
The 5-year BA/MDiv program provides a welcome opportunity for students to receive the best educational training and ministry preparation while minimizing some of the obstacles they face in preparing for God’s calling. For over sixty years, SEBTS has been preparing men for pastoral ministry. This program allows undergraduate students to enroll once they have completed 60 hours of baccalaureate credit. The purpose of this curriculum is to enhance the ministry preparation for these students in accordance with the school’s mission and effectively support the student’s ministerial and theological education.
In order to remain enrolled in the concurrent program, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA. Students must also meet all non-credit character and program activity requirements for the concurrent BA/MDiv program.
Application
Students who wish to pursue this course of study should apply to the College of Southeastern for the B.A. in Pastoral Ministry . They may identify their desire to pursue the BA to MDiv in 5 years with the Admissions office. In consultation with the Center for Pastoral Leadership and Preaching , interested students will pursue the first 60 hours of their degree in a manner which will allow them to be qualified for application for admission to dual enrollment after two years. There is no direct admission to this program at the beginning of a BA program.
Billing
In the 5-year programs, the first four years are billed at the undergraduate rate, and the fifth year is billed at the graduate rate, regardless of course level.
