Program Design
The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) at Southeastern is a 48-hour general theological studies program permitting some academic specialization for international students in a cross-cultural setting who are participating in an approved Global Theological Initiative cohort. The curriculum is designed to expose the student to a broad range of theological disciplines and then guide the student to the focused study of a specific theological discipline via a concentration of selectives and a final research thesis project. The MTS program normally requires two academic years of study.
The Doctor of Ministry (DMin) is a 31-hour advanced degree program designed for those in active vocational ministry (and who have a ministry-related master’s degree from an accredited institution) seeking further training to serve at a new level of excellence in ministry. The program normally requires three to six academic years of study.
The MTS to DMin is a 64-hour combined degree plan designed for specialized cohorts of international students in key positions of vocational ministry. The degree plan begins with the MTS core. After the MTS core is completed, students will complete the DMin application and be evaluated for admission into the DMin. Students continuing in the DMin will complete the entire DMin curriculum, with four DMin Intensive Seminars fulfilling four of the MTS selectives. Concurrently, students will take their final MTS selectives and begin their MTS Thesis. After completing all seminars, students will write their DMin Ministry Project under the supervision of a Major Professor. Students not continuing into the DMin portion of the degree will be able to complete their MTS by taking their remaining MTS selectives and writing their MTS Thesis. The MTS to DMin degree plan is designed to be completed in five or less academic years of study
