Old Testament, M.A.

The purpose of the Master of Arts (Old Testament) Degree Program is to provide a serious student with an opportunity for advanced education in the academic study of the Old Testament beyond the Master of Divinity or Bachelor’s degrees. Graduates of this program will be prepared to undertake doctoral research in Old Testament. Some student may choose this program primarily to extend their preparation for ministry in a local church, on a mission field, or in other positions of denominational or other service. The MAOT Degree is completed normally within two years of full-time enrollment.

Admissions Requirements

Application for admission should be made at least 60 days prior to matriculation. Persons enrolled in another Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary program must notify the director of admissions, the registrar, and the program administrator. Admission to this degree is based upon the following requirements: 1. A set of completed standard application forms an MA (Old Testament) application form. 2. Minimum of 3.0 GPA in an accredited baccalaureate degree program. Applicants with degrees from colleges or universities outside the United States will be considered on an individual basis. 3. Four references (non-family): 1 pastor, 1 character, 2 academic. 4. A graded research paper from a graduate or undergraduate course. Alternatively the GRE Writing Assessment will be accepted. 5. Applicants for whom English is a second language must achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (100 on the internet-based TOEFL) or present an equivalent demonstration of ability to read and write English at a graduate level.

Prerequisites - 39 Hours


Additionally, admission into the Master of Arts (Old Testament) Program is based upon the satisfactory completion of all prerequisite courses (or their equivalents) necessary for entry into this degree. These prerequisite courses (or their equivalents) are as follows:
