The Bachelor of Science in History with Teaching Licensure Track prepares students to meet the requirements for pursuing a North Carolina teaching license in History (secondary grades) and Bible. Students may declare the degree as their major upon admission to the College. However, students must be formally admitted to the Teaching Licensure Track program during their sophomore year. Students who are not admitted to the Teaching Licensure Track program are required to change their major and may enroll in the corresponding Bachelor of Arts degree track or another degree.
Students are admitted to the program during their sophomore year after consultation with the Teaching Licensure Track Director and successful completion of the Introduction to Teaching course. To qualify for admission, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and receive a minimum passing score on the Praxis Core Academic Skills exam in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics (Students with an SAT exam score of 1100 or above in the Verbal and Quantitative section, or with a composite ACT score of 24 or higher are exempt from taking the Praxis Core exam). Students must interview with the Program Director, submit a writing sample from the Intro to Teaching course, and provide recommendation letters, in the Fall of their sophomore year. Those who are accepted into the program will complete the required Teaching Licensure Track coursework throughout their sophomore, junior, and senior years. Prior to student teaching in their senior year, students must pass the Praxis II exam in the concentration area and complete the PPAT assessment.
