  • EDD 8900 - Advanced Statistics for Educators


    This is an advanced course in statistics which will assist students in the analysis of data generated from research in the social sciences, obtained in a Statistics I course. In the first half of this course, students will learn several quantitative methods for determining the relationships between variables, such as regression, multiple regression, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). An overview of statistical software packages will be given. The second half of this course will introduce students to qualitative methods. The qualitative focus will be on interviewing and participant observation as methods for the collection of data in naturalistic social settings, with simultaneous data analysis. Students will cover the history of such approaches, ties between methods and theory, basic methods, and typical analytic approaches. Students will also study current issues and debates relevant to this set of approaches in generating knowledge. Students will understand how these topics relate to real-life research applications. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • EDD 8910 - Research Methods


    The primary purpose of this course is to prepare the student to conduct educational research at the graduate level and to develop the skills necessary for writing an effective research proposal. Students will work through the steps of the process of research through planning, conducting, and evaluating a research project. Included will be quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods designs.

    The readings and exercises in this course are designed to assist the student to choose and develop an acceptable research problem, review the research literature, and address the methodological issues of the research project. The student may choose to use this class to guide the writing of the dissertation proposal. If this is done, the student must be in consultation through the process with his or her major professor. All substantive and procedural issues must result from a collaborative effort between the student and major professor. 3 semester hr(s).

    This seminar offers an advanced study of leadership in Next Generation Ministry. Attention will be given to establishing a working definition of next generation ministry, identifying components of the ministry, and learning different approaches to leadership in this ministry. Students will examine organizational structures and identify ways to select, develop, and lead leaders in this specialized ministry. These topics will be woven into the development of a Christian leadership strategy. The focus will be inclusive of children from birth through adolescence in next generation ministry. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • DMN 8202 - Family Issues in Next Generation Ministry


    An advanced study of the role of the family in a next generation ministry. The development of a plan for inclusion of the family in the ministry will drive the content of the course. Attention will be given to biblical responses to contemporary issues facing the family, problematic areas to family dynamics and developmental issues within the family structure. An emphasis on methodologies for building a Christian home will be considered. The practical evaluation of contemporary methodologies used in the local ministry context will be required. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • DMN 8203 - Intentional Disciple-making in Next Generation Ministry


    The purpose of this course is to equip the student to develop and lead a disciple-making strategy in next generation ministry. The strategy will incorporate the stages of learning development of children from birth through adolescence to facilitate appropriate spiritual development. Careful attention will be given to evaluating the process of spiritual growth, nurture, and disciple-making within the Christian faith. Contemporary approaches to spiritual formation and disciple-making in next generation ministry will be examined to determine best practices. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • DMN 8204 - Missional Mobilization for Next Generation Ministry


    This course will explore how to develop a biblically-based and intentional missional strategy for next generation ministry. The focus of the strategy will be Great Commission mobilization locally, regionally, and internationally through appropriate engagement by different age groups in the ministry. 3 semester hr(s).

  • DMN 8301 - Turnaround Strategies for the Church


    This seminar focuses on church revitalization through a careful study of church turnaround strategies to help churches to move from decline to healthy existence. Attention will be given to the purposes of the church in relation to the condition of a church. These purposes will form the impetus for turnaround strategies. Different turnaround strategies will be identified, evaluated, and compared in an effort to increase the skill-level of students to lead churches in revitalization. Students will be able to design a turnaround strategy in one’s ministry setting. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • DMN 8302 - Critical Issues in Church Revitalization


    This seminar is designed to equip students to deal appropriately with issues affecting church revitalization. Attention will be given to various internal and external issues within the revitalization process. Students will learn approaches, responses, and practices to prevent serious interruptions of the process. The expectation is students will know how to deal with the various issues arising during initiation and implementation in order to facilitate effective and healthy revitalization. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • DMN 8303 - Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation


    A practical and analytical study of conflict and conflict resolution related to Christian groups and local churches will occur in this course. Special attention will be given to church polity, the role of personality, and the role of power and authority in conflict and conflict resolution. Students will learn new methodology and skills to resolve organizational and personal conflict. Biblical and theological insights will provide the guidance necessary to facilitate reconciliation. 3 semester hr(s).

    An advanced examination of the leader’s role in developing Great Commission strategy. Attention will be given to strategic issues relevant to Great Commission mobilization as well as the integration of theory and practice into strategic methodologies for the local ministry context.   • DMN 8402 - Cultivating Spiritual Formation through the Disciplines


    The purpose of this course is to study the connection between spiritual formation and disciple-making, the stages of faith, and the effects of the spiritual disciplines on faith development. This course will equip ministers to discern the development of believers and to lead believers in the spiritual disciplines as a part of faith development. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • DMN 8403 - Leadership Responsibilities and Issues in Disciple-making


    The purpose of this course is to study the role of the spiritual leader in the disciple-making process and to identify the critical issues in disciple-making.     The purpose of this course is to equip the minister in leading a culture of disciple-making following the pattern established by Jesus and His disciples. Careful attention will be given to evaluating the process of spiritual growth, nurture and disciple-making within the Christian faith.     An advanced study on developing leaders in a ministry context. Special attention will be given to the selection of new leaders and the developmental process for leaders. Students will evaluate various approaches to leadership development to identify key components and skills needed to develop leaders. Students will receive instruction on coaching and mentoring. The developmental process will lead to an extensive study on how to lead leaders and work with teams toward the same vision with the same mission. 3 semester hr(s).

    A theoretical and practical study of trauma, crisis situations, and selected emotional disorders.     This course explores foundational issues in biblical counseling for church planting catalysts with a focus on developing skills to coach and counsel church planters and their wives in building a healthy marriage and family life in the context of church planting ministry.     This course explores leadership skills and expertise required to catalyze church plants, church planting teams, sending churches, and movements.     This seminar will explore a variety of models and methods that can be used effectively by the evangelical church in North America.     This seminar will be geared toward assisting the catalytic leader in developing and enhancing an effective strategic plan.     A broad overview and evaluation of the major schools of thought in educational psychology including behaviorism, cognitivism, and humanism. Developmental theory, individual differences, exceptionality, group management, and individualized instruction are clarified. Attention is given to biblical principles related to teaching and learning. The primary application of this course is to the classroom and related forms of group instruction.
