    A practicum course designed to introduce the student to the biblical, theological, historical, and practical bases for Christian missions.   • MIS 4520 - Anthropology for Cross-cultural Understanding


    An introduction to cultural anthropology for missionary change-agents, including the use of the ethnographic interview and a study of cross-cultural social structures, customs, thought forms and social change. 3 semester hr(s). Spring semester.

    An examination of issues at the intersection of theology, culture, ecclesiology, and church planting. The course identifies some contextualization models and challenges students to build a theology of culture and contextualization in North America. 3 semester hr(s).   • MIS 6620 - Urban Missions in NACP


    An examination of issues at the intersection of urban ministry city context and church planting. The course explores the history and nature of ministering in cities from a biblical, theological and missiological perspective to help students prepare and develop a strategy for urban missions. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • MIS 6630 - Spiritual Warfare in Evangelism and Missions


    An examination of spiritual warfare, with a particular focus on the relationship between warfare and evangelism and missions. Attention is given to the biblical, historical, and contemporary perspectives of spiritual conflict. 3 semester hr(s). Annually
  
  • MIS 6700 - A Theology of Christian World Mission


    A comprehensive and critical study of the biblical perspectives on the mission of Israel and the Church among the nations. Special attention is given to the Old Testament concepts of the creation, covenant, and election. The New Testament study focuses on the mission of Jesus, of the Church, and the apostolic understanding of mission. The biblical material will be compared with selected historical and contemporary theologies of mission. 3 semester hr(s).

  • MIS 6992 - SBC Crossover


    Evangelism experience in partnership with NAMB, local churches, and other Southern Baptist seminaries during annual Crossover events. This trip takes place in the week preceding the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. Students will receive training and practical evangelistic experiences in a North American setting. 3 semester hr(s). Every Summer.
  
  • MIS 7510 - Cross-Cultural Communication


    The study and practice of communication of the Christian faith across cultural and social boundaries through both verbal and nonverbal messages. Emphasis is placed on developing bi-cultural models for evangelistic and theological persuasion using a modified receptor-oriented communicative technique. 3 semester hr(s).

    Students and their mentors will develop a learning covenant designed to help the student attain four objectives, set in the areas of language learning, culture acquisition, evangelism, and church planting. Mentors will work with their students, as designated in the Mentor Handbook. Throughout an 8 month period on the field, the mentor will assess the student’s progress in each of the stated objectives as well as a number of other areas (as indicated on the Church Planting Evaluation form, included in the Mentor Handbook). 3 semester hr(s).     This seminar allows the student to make an assessment of various dimensions of missions strategy, It will cover church planting, contextualization, and leadership training both in their historical and contemporary forms. 3 semester hr(s).
  
  • MIS 9910 - Missions Strategy II: Practice


    A continuation of Missions Strategy I: Theory. This seminar provides a forum for the students to (1) discuss, analyze, and critique current missiological strategies of Great Commission agencies, and (2) work together to build strategies for the new millennium, particularly in relation to evangelism and discipleship in a cross-cultural context. 3 semester hr(s).

    A survey of musical styles that have developed in Western culture, including classical, folk, and popular song genres and forms. Particular emphasis will be given to musical styles used in Christian worship. 3 semester hr(s). Fall.

    An introduction to the analysis of the forms and genres of tonal music utilized on common practice from the Baroque Era through the Romantic Era. 3 semester hr(s). Prerequisite(s): MUS2501 Fall semester.

    A study of techniques of writing and scoring for orchestral instruments. 2 semester hr(s). Prerequisite(s): MUS 2503  Spring semester.
